Our Mission

‘Ethical transport to meet the needs of customers that does not cost the earth’

greentomatocars started with a view of looking after the environment and our customers. To keep transport simple and efficient. As the years have passed, we have changed. We have grown up. Part of our growth is focusing on what is important to us - and it is that we keep our roots which are firmly planted in this industry by doing the right thing. Being ethical means many things. To us it means looking after our workplace, our environment, our community and our customers. Each pillar is equally as important to be the best at what we do while contributing something positive to help and support. In our about us page, you will learn about what we are doing in each of these areas and we want you to join us on our journey. We believe it is our customers who shape our future - if you would like to partner with us, work with us, or give us your thoughts or advice please contact marketing@greentomatocars.com.

Our Green Initiatives

Being green is at the heart of everything we do. It’s where we started, it’s what was important to our founders and what is still important to us. When we began our journey in 2006 we were the very first environmentally friendly private hire company in London. We helped pave the way for the future of London’s environment and this is a fact we are very proud of. We don’t want it to stop there. We want to keep exploring new ways to improve and be the leaders in our industry by showing London what we can all do to help keep our city clean so that we can breathe easy.
Some of our larger projects we work on:

Double offset our emissions:
Not only were we the first private hire company to use only hybrid vehicles, we were also the first to double offset our emissions. Last year alone we offset 1,000 tons of CO2 emissions (or 142 double decker busses). You can find out more about this project here

Toyota Mirai:
Over a decade ago, the pioneering Toyota Prius enabled greentomatocars to start our journey. Thanks to their innovative flexible Hybrid architecture, we can now pursue our revolutionary development through the introduction of the new Toyota Mirai: the hydrogen-powered car that emits nothing but water, guaranteed to leave an impression on you (but not the earth), on every journey. The Mirai signals the start of a new age of sustainable transport. Rather than petrol, the Mirai runs on electricity created on demand using hydrogen pumped into the car, stored in carbon-fibre fuel tanks. From there, the hydrogen travels to the fuel cell where it meets air drawn into the car by the front intake grilles. The hydrogen and the oxygen react, creating electricity, which is sent to the motor to power the car. The only by-product of creating electricity with hydrogen and oxygen? Just water… H20. The electric super car ‘Tesla S’:
At greentomatocars, we aim to provide more than just a transport service; prioritising both the environment and the customer’s experience. The electric super-car, the Tesla S, offers a perfect platform to do so, running 100% on electricity with a battery range of over 250 miles. We have had two of these amazing vehicles on our fleet for over two years having saved 50,000 miles worth of emissions around the busy streets of London! Since being introduced in 2012, the Tesla S has been hailed the harbinger of environmentally friendly transport technology, swimming in oodles of technological rewards including; Time Magazine Best 25 Inventions of the Year 2012, 2013 World Green Car of the Year, 2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year, Automobile magazine's 2013 Car of the Year, Consumer Reports' top-scoring car ever and in 2015, Car and Driver named the Model S the Car of the Century – and we have been testing two! Our Polar Bear Initiative:
In 2013 we branched out of London’s environment and started looking at some colder climates and what we could do to help. We found the WWF and their efforts to help save the polar bears. Did you know that by 2050 polar bear numbers could decline by 30% due to the loss of sea ice? By sponsoring our polar bears we help to conserve the Arctic region’s rich biodiversity, maintain a healthy arctic environment with undisturbed ecosystems and healthy wildlife populations and raise awareness of the threats of climate change. We now sponsor polar bears. To find out more or also help support the polar bears please click here

ISO 14001:

ISO 14001 - Sustainable accreditation

Being green is at the heart of all we do, from the cars we use to the way we run our offices.  To that end, we have the ISO 14001 accreditation that certifies that greentomatocars is   committed to ensuring that our day to day operations are sustainable across all sectors. Our History

In 2006 two friends (Jonny Goldstone & Tom Pakenham) were working in their respective law firms. One called the other to say he no longer wished to work as a lawyer and he would like to start a private hire taxi service with a twist. Something London hadn't yet seen. Together they decided they wanted to create a service that was both personal and environmentally friendly. They wanted to give back to the environment by creating a company that looked after it. Before they did this though, they went to work for other private hire companies. One worked as a driver and one worked in the office. When they felt they knew enough they opened their first office in West London with only 4 cars and few employees.

The service was personal and the quirky green tomatoes caught London's eye. Soon we had our first big client, (who we still work with to this day). From there we grew. We adapted with the changing industry but we did not forget our roots, instead we planted them deeper. 10 years on and we are even more committed to our customers, our drivers and our environment. We are always trying to improve and build on what we did yesterday and we want you to join us on our journey. If you want to partner with us, work with us or have any suggestions on what else we can do please email us on marketing@greentomatocars.com

Our Charities

Green tomato cars is a family and as a family we understand the importance of looking out for each other and for those less fortunate than ourselves. Each year, together we nominate and then vote on our charity of the year. Each month of that year we run a special event to raise the funds that we have promised. This year we chose Great Ormond Street Hospital.

If you have any questions or suggestions about our charities or would just like to get in touch please contact us on marketing@greentomatocars.com

Tree For Cities

Being green means so many things to us. Environmentally friendly cars, being a green champion in and outside of our office, environmentally friendly suppliers, volunteering where we can to make our community a better place – but it also means literally being green. By this we mean Tree’s for Cities. They work to ensure large urban cities stay green and healthy and they do this by planting trees for air, or in some cases for food. They are an international charity and we have been working with them to plant 14 trees per month for 3 years. We plant these trees every month, but in some months if we take a mother in labour to the airport we plant a tree in her babies name. To find out more on this great charity here

Great Ormond Street Hospital

Great Ormond Street Hospital looks after 255,000 children per year. They are dedicated to children's healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses since 1852. Due to their constant efforts (and everyone's donations) they were the first children's hospital in the English speaking world and from there they kept moving forward. They pioneered the first heart and lung bypass machine for children, revolutionising heart surgery. They led the first UK clinical trials of the rubella vaccine and they became the first to transplant bone marrow in a landmark procedure in 1979. This isn't all that Great Ormond Street have accomplished since their inception. whizz - kidz

In addition to our own charity we also support the charities of our extended corporate family, Transdev. They have chosen to champion Whizz Kids. This is an organisation where the single most important thing is to transform the lives of disabled children by providing the equipment, support and life skills they need – when they need them, giving them the chance to develop their full potential. Whizz kids not only helps to provide the right equipment to get these children on their way they also give disabled young people the chance to meet, have fun and gain new skills through their Young People’s Services. Since 1990 they have worked with and transformed the lives of more than 18,000 disabled children and young people. To help us support this charity, please click here

The Kensington Temple School

Since our beginnings in 2006 there has been one charity which is very dear to our heart. It has been driven by one of the drivers who helped us build what we have today by offering an exceptional service to our customers (even winning driver of the year in 2014), Eric Bonful. Eric dedicated half of his time to greentomatocars and the other half working with his wife, Comfort, trying to secure the long term future of the children in the town he is from in Ghana. Eric and Comfort want the children in the Kumasi Region of Ghana to have a fair chance at life – and his way of making this happen was to build a school. From nothing.

The Kensington Temple School is remarkable, bringing education and care to many hundreds of children. The school has been built from nothing since 2006 and is now close to raising the first £40,000 tranche of a total £150,000 which will ensure its on-going survival. It will also complete the top floor, which will house the Junior High School. The school is operationally self-financing, so once these targets have been met, it will be able to stand on its own two feet and look after more than 600 pupils.
